Memorandum of Understanding with the Intellectual Property Office of Montenegro

The Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Intellectual Property Office of Montenegro and the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office was signed by Director Novak Adžić and President Dr. Miklós Bendzsel in the Montenegrin capital, Podgorica on 18 July 2012.

The Memorandum provides a framework for further cooperation between the two Offices, especially in the field of information exchange, training of staff, awareness-raising and enforcement of IP rights.

Montenegro is currently waiting to join the European Patent Organisation. Its Government signed in 2009 the Agreement on extension of European patens (Extension Agreement), which can be regarded as the antechamber of membership. The Agreement entered into force on 1 March 2010. In addition, a historical step forward in the EU integration of Montenegro, the opening of accession negotiations based on the European Council's decision on 29 June 2012, also accounts for closer cooperation in the field of intellectual property protection and for putting the relations between the Offices on a new basis.
