Concluding Document of the WIPO Diplomatic Conference signed
As a result of a Diplomatic Conference held in Geneva between 13 and 24 2024 the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) adopted a new, ground-breaking international Treaty on intellectual property, genetic resources and associated traditional knowledge. This historic breakthrough was achieved after a series of negotiations lasting for several decades.
It is the first WIPO Treaty to address the interface between intellectual property, genetic resources and traditional knowledge, and to include provisions specifically for indigenous peoples and local communities. The Treaty establishes a disclosure requirement for patent applications for inventions based on genetic resources and/or associated traditional knowledge.
The Concluding Document of the Diplomatic Conference was signed on behalf of Hungary by Szabolcs Farkas, President of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office.
