CONFERENCE ON THE TRAINING OF UPC JUDGES

BUDAPEST, 13-14 March 2014

The Agreement on a Unified Patent Court was signed on 19 February 2013 by 25 EU Member States. This Agreement specifies Budapest as the location of a Training Centre for patent judges of the Unified Patent Court (UPC). On the occasion of, and in conjunction with, the inauguration of the Training Centre for UPC judges, a conference will be held in the building of the Training Centre, in the Castle area of Budapest, on 13-14 March 2014. The Conference will be co-organized by the Hungarian Ministry of Public Administration and Justice, the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office.

The Conference will be opened by Mr Tibor Navracsis, Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, Mr Zoltán Cséfalvay, Minister of State of the Ministry for National Economy of Hungary, Mr Benoît Battistelli, President of EPO, and António Campinos, President of OHIM. Contributions will be made by leaders of national, regional and international IP institutions, universities, judges or lawyers associations. The first day of the Conference is devoted to a general introduction to the Unified Patent Court, the work of the Preparatory Committee thereof, and the current system of training for judges in the EU Member States. The second day gives an overview of the work of the Select Committee of the UPC and contemplates on the possible professional content to be included in the curriculum of the training for UPC judges. Contributors will represent, among others, the academia, judicial associations and professional representatives in the IP field. The draft programme of the Conference can be downloaded here.
