Lisbon Agreement

Lisbon Agreement

The aim of the Agreement is to ensure the protection of appellations of origin by the registration of the International Bureau of WIPO. The Agreement defines the appellation of origin as follows: the "geographical name of a country, region, or locality, which serves to designate a product originating therein, the quality and characteristics of which are due exclusively or essentially to the geographic environment, including natural and human factors". Up to June 2019, 28 states joined the Agreement, among others Hungary.

The Lisbon Express database contains information on all the appellations of origin entered, in accordance with the Lisbon Agreement for the Protection of Appellations of Origin and their International Registration, in the international register kept by the WIPO International Bureau and which are in force.
