Designer(s): IGLÓI-NAGY Péter, NAGY Ádám Client: Sanatmetal Kft. Manufacturer: Sanatmetal Kft.
About

Jury statement

The WIWE cardio-diagnostic device excels from among the wide range of medical diagnostic ’gadgets’ in regard to both its technical parameters, design and services. This mobile ECG device with a unique set of features and a mature design is the size of a business card but can forecast a stroke or a sudden cardiac arrest. It is extremely easy to use and gives instant feedback of the correctness of its use. The product’s developers realised the project very successfully as they achieved complete harmony between the brand name, logo, packaging and the objective of its application. Just looking at the device makes it clear what it is for and how it should be used without a need for prior information. Of course, Sanatmetal also developed a mobile application – a basic requirement these days – enabling a fast and clear evaluation and making its use easy for those not so competent in mobile technology. It is especially delightful that the name of a Hungarian enterprise can be read on the back panel of such an impressive product. WIWE is a marketable, world standard product.

MIX armchair

Designer(s): CSOMA Sarolta, HORVÁTH Máté Manufacturer: frame: SZIGYÁRTÓ István, structure and krion parts: Nezozen Ltd
About

Jury statement

Designing a chair poses one of the greatest professional challenges for a designer. Not only does it require complex, multidisciplinary knowledge but the trap of copying patterns must also be avoided since there is an astounding number of precedents and classical models. Is there, or can there be anything new under the sun? The Mix armchair is shining proof that there is. It is characterised by a harmonious appearance, masterly proportions, maximum comfort and an excellent combination of materials. Moreover – thanks to its releasable jointings – the furniture is easy to assemble and disassemble, thus its packaging can be optimised well and it can be delivered space-efficiently. There are all important features when it comes to serial production. Mix is a great example of a design practice inspired by the achievements of classical good design and the tradition of Scandinavian design. We can hardly wait to see it as a product.

VARGA-FLEXO – OKTOFLEX | PREMIUM flexographic printing press

Designer(s): Varga-Flexo Ltd – NÉMETH László, VARGA Dénes Client: Varga-Flexo Ltd
About

Jury statement

The Oktoflex flexographic printer is the result of a high quality, well thought-through, and exemplary design-based product development project. The final design of the printer reflects the 25 years of experience – impressive by international comparison too – accumulated by Varga-Flexo Ltd in the area of flexographic printing. The objective the designers set was to find an optimal connection between man and machine in regard to operation, use, maintenance and servicing, but modular further development was also an important consideration. The interfaces and the software programmes are realised at a functionally and visually high standard. The construction and form of the machine are built on maximum and multiple functionality, which resulted in a logical and distinct design that is at once mature, clear, well-arranged, unique, fresh and identifiable. This formally, visually and functionally perfectly synchronised system was created with consideration to the principles of Industry 4.0.

LIVSDAL identity design

Fotó/Photo: Alexander CRISPIN
Designer(s): PALOTAI Gábor Client: Livsdal Sverige AB
About

Jury statement

Graphic designer Gábor Palotai, the holder of dozens of international awards, designed a visual identity for the Swedish Livsdal, a producer of premium air purifiers, from pixel points. How can the atomic world, the particles of the air, invisible to the naked eye, be made visible and visualised? How can it be represented in a way that this invisible world permeating and determining every moment of our lives would not lose any of its abstract, fine and intangible character but at the same time be given a perceptible, attractive and systemic visual identity that is viable? Palotai created a universe for Livsdal that is built on the contrasts of orange, white black, ’gaps’ and a series of points while being complex in its simplicity. The points can be used to ’build’ a logo and a poster too; the poster pattern is a recurring communicational element on the front panels of the air purifiers and on their packaging too. It is an elegant and gracefully pure masterpiece: to the POINT.

Designer(s): PÁKOZDI Rebeka
University: Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest
About

Jury statement

The project is characterised by a progressive and complex approach and task management that point beyond the the scope of the student category. The designer’s personal involvement – her thorough knowledge of posture- improving medical aids – helped her to rethink an object of everyday use in a health-conscious way and develop a product suitable for preventing damage to health. Its novelty is its unique, customisable back brace that can be cast to a required form and the posture-improving design of the shoulder straps. The product is high quality both in regard to its ergonomy and implementation. Besides the manufactured product variant, the project provides options for further development.

TRADITION RECONTEXTUALIZED woven textile collection

Fotó/Photo: TARJÁN Gergely
Designer(s): RÉVÉSZ Eszter
University: Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest – Doctoral School
Manufacturer: TextielLab
About

Jury statement

Adapting traditional, mature folk motifs to the present time and creating something new and fresh by combining them with innovation is a hugely demanding task. In the meantime, there is the challenge of connecting old and new in a way that tradition is preserved and the new created out of it does not lose meaning. The jury found it outstanding that this project succeeded to realise the above after large-scale research and with great commitment. There are many international examples for this, especially in Scandinavian countries, and it is delightful that the product line that came out with such dedication is a likeable and useable textile ensemble well fitted to contemporary lifestyle, interiors and objects. These textiles do not take over, yet they convey quality and pure professionalism, while introducing warmth into our environment. It is noteworthy, that the designer sought out a plant in the Netherlands that had the high technology required for the perfect implementation of her design as well as the professional background she needed to bring her re-interpreted tradition to life.
