Reporting exhibition of the László Moholy-Nagy Design Grant 2011

Today design forms an integral part of our everyday lives and is an important tool in mediating our culture and identity. Beyond creativity, talent and good ideas, the creation of a marketable product requires a manufacturer who realises its potential as well as competent users who are receptive to new solutions. The László Moholy-Nagy Grant, established in 1988 with the objective of assisting young talented designers at the start of their careers and helping them realise their potential, is instrumental in realising this goal.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition showcasing projects by the László Moholy-Nagy Grant holders and the Lajos Kozma Crafts and Design grantees in 2011 took place on 25 April 2012 at the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest. The guests were welcomed by Dr. Imre Takács, the director-general of the museum and the exhibition was opened by Dr. Miklós Bendzsel, the president of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and the Hungarian Design Council, as well as by art historian Júlia N. Mészáros.

The winning designs of the László Moholy-Nagy Grant holders in 2011 yet again attested to the role design plays in enhancing competitiveness: the young talents worked on objects, collections and concepts that can be potentially turned into marketable products. "All the young designers paid special attention to the application of user-centred design and created innovative, producible and competitive projects that, answering to the challenges of the 21st century, meet the needs of society," said Mr. Miklós Bendzsel.

The exhibition can be viewed between 26 April and 17 June 2012 at the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest (1091 Budapest, Üllői út 33-37), from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday.
