About us

The Hungarian Design Council (HDC) is a Governmental advisory body that promotes the awareness of design as a powerful tool for progress, and the role of designers in society and industry. The Council facilitates co-operation and interaction among design-related organisations.

The objective of the Hungarian Design Council is to contribute to improving the quality of life and the competitiveness of the national economy with the tools of design. With our concerted efforts we want to create a flourishing country in the centre of Europe where citizens live in an attractive and healthy environment, respect and cultivate their traditions, assert their cultural identity and are aware that design is an important part of their well-being.

The members of the Hungarian Design Council are outstanding professionals of design, of related institutions and professional fields. The 15-member-body is appointed for a three-year period by the minister in charge of economy and development. The Chairman of the Council is the President of the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office, Dr. Miklós BENDZSEL.

The Hungarian Design Council is responsible for drawing up of the harmonised government strategy of the development of Hungarian design, and participates in its implementation, with consulting, as well as the agreement of interests and options. The HDC creates and directs comprehensive work programmes to promote the national design culture. The annual activity of HDC is regulated by Government Decree no. 266/2001 and by a three-year work programme. Read more
