Intellectual Property Education by the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office
The Hungarian Intellectual Property Office seeks to disperse knowledge of intellectual property through its educational programmes ranging from basic to professional levels. The training courses meet the different needs of a wide range of target groups enabling them to acquire the knowledge they require in the field of intellectual property protection.
At present the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office offers the following training courses:
Training Courses in Higher Education
It is of high priority for the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge among the youth about intellectual property protection. Our long-term goal is to make sure that no undergraduate pursuing technical, economic, management or arts studies leaves the university/collage without gaining at least basic knowledge of intellectual property protection. To achieve this goal, the HPO has been offering its Cooperation Programme to higher educational institutions for a decade now. Within the framework of the partnership programme, the undergraduates can familiarise themselves with the system that can ensure the economic gains of their creative activities in courses held regularly in 16 higher educational institutions.
Adult Education
On 9 January 2006 the Public Employment Service registered the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office (HPO) as an institution providing adult education. The industrial property training courses of the HPO hold the programme accreditation of the Adult Education Accreditation Board. The HPO offers industrial property qualification, in accordance with the activity set out in its Deed of Foundation, under Decree 2/2008 (VIII.22.) TNM.
The HPO's industrial property training activity is exempt of VAT under Article 85 of Act CXXVII of 2007 on Value Added Tax.
The HPO offers the following training courses:
E-learning
It is not possible for all current and future Hungarian entrepreneurs, university and collage students to participate in the training courses. This is why the HIPO launched its distance-learning programme, which makes it possible for those who are interested to acquire knowledge about IPR in a flexible way with the possibility of having an individual schedule while meeting individual needs. We warmly recommend this form of education to higher educational institutions, as well, since it is highly flexible and meets individual needs in an excellent way.
Examination of Patent Attorneys
After completion of the advanced level course on IPR and the apprenticeship period, the patent attorney candidate has to pass the specialist examination of patent attorneys before the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office before starting to work as a patent attorney.
